Frequently Asked Questions

  • Can my child start Kindergarten if they are not toilet trained?

Yes, your child can start Kindergarten even if they are not toilet trained. Pre-Schools cannot refuse enrolment based on toilet training status. If you have concerns, please discuss them with your child’s teacher.

Our staff are experienced and will ensure your child feels comfortable and supported during this transition.

  • Do I need to provide a change of clothes for my child?

Yes, please ensure your child has a spare change of clothes and shoes in their kindergarten bag.

While the kindergarten provides smocks, children can still get dirty during activities. Having a change of clothes on hand allows your child to stay comfortable and wear their own clothes if they need to change.

  • How do you support children transitioning to pre-school?

Your child will start in smaller groups with shorter sessions, giving them time to adjust at their own pace. Each child will separate from you when they are ready.

You’ll work closely with educators to ensure a smooth and supportive transition during drop-off and pick-up, making your child as comfortable as possible.

  • Is Kindergarten different from pre-school?

In Victoria, ‘kindergarten’ and ‘pre-school’ are interchangeable and refer to the same stage of early education—the years before primary school.

  • What are the eligibility requirements for the 3 and 4-year-old programs?

To join our three-year-old kinder program, your child must turn three by April 30. They can start attending after their third birthday.

To join our four-year-old kinder program, your child must turn four by April 30 of the attending year.

  • What are the immunisation requirements for enrolling my child?

The Government’s No Jab No Play laws require all children to be age-appropriately immunised before enrolment can be confirmed. Further information on immunisation requirements for enrolment in early childhood services is available on the State Government’s Better Health Channel

  • What is the Free Kinder Initiative, and does it apply to my child?

The Free Kinder Initiative provides free sessional kindergarten for all children in our three and four-year-old programs.

Your child can only receive government funding at one service. If they attend both Bimbadeen and another childcare program, the funding applies to only one.

  • What should I do if I am late to pick up my child from Kindergarten?

If you are late to pick up your child from Kindergarten, please contact the pre-school as soon as possible to inform them of your delay. Our staff will ensure your child is supervised until you arrive.

  • What should my child bring to pre-school each day?

Each child will need a named bag with:

    • A full set of spare clothing
    • A lunchbox with a healthy snack in reusable containers
    • A drink bottle filled with water

For the four-year-old program, children will also need a healthy lunch for longer sessions (5+ hours).

Please avoid sending toys from home to prevent them from getting lost or broken.
